Almost 24,000 attend successful Japan Camping Car Show

The largest celebration of campervans and motorhomes in Japan, the Japan Camping Car Show 2022, was declared a success by organisers when it took place in Chiba City in February. The show, which is in its 12th year, gathered together one of its largest exhibiting line-ups ever with more than 280 campervans from 66 different companies across Japan in attendance. Attendance for the show was recorded at 23,775, which comprised both industry visitors and the general public.

This growth of the show, according to organisers the Japan RV Association (JRVA), is a direct result of the resent boom in campervan sales, with records broken in Japan in 2021 as more and more consumers become intrigued by the campervan lifestyle.

The wide range of models on display covered all aspects of the campervan spectrum – from high-end models that are custom built to be homes from home, through to models that are more simple and subtle, often converted from minivans or other standard vehicles. One of the trends of the event was exhibitors showcasing that a campervan can be more than just a place to go on holiday, but also a place to work and live from in comfort and with minimal stress.

The JRVA even put on a special showcase to show how campervans can be incredibly useful in emergencies or natural disasters – offering moveable shelter that could be life-saving in such events.

While this is the biggest of the events that JRVA organises, it is the tip of the iceberg. The organisation has a huge schedule of camping and camping car events planned across the whole of Japan, many bringing only local regional companies together.
