Another show falls to Covid-19: CMT 2021 postponed

One of the world’s largest consumer tourism and leisure industry shows, CMT, has announced the postponement of its 2021 event, which was set to take place in January.

Organisers of the show, which usually takes place in Stuttgart, Germany, claim that while they didn’t take the decision easily, it was largely unavoidable in light of the continued Covid-19 crisis in Europe. The show had exhibitors from more than 100 countries booked onto its floorplan, and organisers wanted to avoid a very last-minute cancellation.

Guido von Vacano, member of the board management for the show, said: “In recent weeks, we have received so much support and appreciation from our exhibitors and partners. The registration numbers were – despite individual cancellations – very good, in some areas we even had a waiting list. We had an approved safety and hygiene concept and our colleagues were working tirelessly for the trade fair.”

The organisers of the show are said to be investigating the option of hosting an alternative CMT concept show for a date later in the spring or summer. Roland Bleinroth, president of Messe Stuttgart, said: “We want to provide this important market platform for the tourism and caravanning sector at a time when safe implementation is guaranteed.

“We promised our exhibitors that we would watch the situation closely and reassess it as necessary. We have now done so – sufficiently in advance of the trade fair, which is necessary for all involved in order to at least minimise the resulting damage. We are now also working intensively and in close coordination with our long-term partners on a viable replacement scenario.”

CMT is the world's largest consumer show for tourism and leisure. In January 2020, it counted around 300,000 visitors and 2161 exhibitors on a total of nine trade fair days. This was thus the most successful trade fair in its history of over 50 years.
