Australian caravan industry welcomes new government

The Caravan Industry Association of Australia has warmly welcomed the country’s new prime minister Anthony Albanese and his new government after the country’s recent election.

In a statement, CEO of the Caravan Industry Association of Australia, Stuart Lamont, said that: “The ALP (Australian Labour Party) have always been strong supporters of the caravan industry, and we welcome the opportunity to collaborate with them on issues of importance to the sector.  These include improving supply chains and workforce shortages, supporting a resilient and sovereign manufacturing industry, identifying instruments to improve the insurance market, and ensuring domestic tourism is strongly positioned in the visitor economy.”

Pre-election, Anthony Albanese’s ALP committed to supporting several initiatives from the Caravan Industry Association of Australia’s federal policy agenda, including:

  • $10 million to support caravan parks to upgrade their infrastructure
  • Progressing a Centre of Excellence for manufacturing, research and development, consumer inspections and training
  • Providing oversight to progress timely RVSA initiatives which make RV products safer for consumers, and a level playing field for industry businesses
  • Create worker attraction strategies for providing workforce solutions for industry businesses
  • Ensuring the residential land lease sector is well positioned to support downsizing and housing initiatives

Stuart Lamont added: “We would also take this opportunity to thank the outcoming Prime Minister Scott Morrison and the Coalition, for their ongoing support to the caravan industry over the past 10 years which included $1 million in funding to support the uptake of defibs in caravan parks; improving cyber security in business; funding education campaigns to improve road safety; supporting the passage of the RVSA; and improving the digital readiness of industry businesses.

“The caravanning and camping industry is worth over $23 billion to the Australian economy annually and we look forward to working constructively with the new Albanese Government in making the industry safer, sustainable, and more compliant.”
