CMT 2022 show forced to cancel due to new COVID restrictions

Leading German tourism and caravanning exhibition CMT will not take place as planned in January 2022 after a tightening of coronavirus restrictions in the country in light of the omicron variant. The show was scheduled to take place at the Messe Stuttgart from 15 to 23 January, however the Baden-Württemberg state government has announced that it will be entering Alert Level II until at least 17 January, under which the running of exhibitions and fairs is prohibited. The cancellation of CMT will also apply to all its subsidiary shows including Cycling and Hiking Holidays, Cruises and Ship Travel, and Golf and Wellness Holidays.

President of Messe Stuttgart, Roland Bleinroth, said: “Since CMT 2021 was at least held in a digital format, we made intensive preparations in the last few months for an attended event in January together with all partners and exhibitors. The booked up halls at CMT clearly show us that an exhibition platform is urgently required. At present, we will deliberately not hold a hybrid event. Apart from the fact that the focal points of CMT are the exchange of information, advisory discussions and direct personal contact, the preparation time for an alternative digital format would now be far too short.”

Despite not running a full digital show as it did in 2021, interested parties can obtain information about companies, products and innovations from the tourism, camping and outdoor industries in the online exhibitor index on the CMT website.

Guido von Vacano, board member of the Messe Stuttgart, added: “For a good ten months, we have fought tirelessly for a successful CMT 2022 and developed new formats and key topics both for end customers and trade visitors. For example, diving and snorkelling tourism would have been represented by Interdive for the first time at CMT. The current situation has had a devastating impact on everyone who passionately organise personal encounters. We are now looking forward to the next CMT. We would like to thank everyone who has accompanied us so far and will also continue to do so in future.”

The costs for all tickets purchased for CMT will be refunded using the same method in which they were ordered. The next CMT will take place from 14 to 22 January 2023.
