Compact roof tent from Thule could attract casual campers

Casual campers and general outdoors consumers will surely be a large part of the target market for a brand-new compact roof tent from Thule: the Tepui Foothill.

Measuring just 24 inches (70cm) in width, the Tepui Foothill is about half the typical width of most roof tents on the market, which frees up space on the roof of the vehicle to carry a kayak, a bicycle or other rooftop luggage. When packed down, the Tepui Foothill is also only 9.5 inches in height (24cm), meaning it won’t drastically extent the height of the vehicle you mount it on.

Despite the compact dimensions, the roof tent can comfortably sleep two adults when pitched and features intuitive internal telescopic frame poles that allows just one person to deploy it or break it down. The newly designed base of the tent also drastically reduces its overall weight, while still providing a strong and stable base. It also features a wide entry, oversized panoramic rear window and dual skylights for maximum airflow. The canopy fabric is both UV and mould resistant and the tent is supplied with a rain flysheet to protect against poor weather. Inside the Tepui Foothill is a high-density foam mattress and a wide range of sleeping accessories are also available including a fitted sheet and insulator.

The new roof tent joins the existing Thule range which includes the Tepui Ruggedized Series, Tepui Low-Pro Series and Tepui Explorer Series.

The Tepui Foothill is expected to be available in North America in February, and Europe later in 2021.
