First Camp expands into Norway

Scandinavia’s largest camping chain First Camp has extended its network into Norway after acquiring its first ever campsite in the country, Norsjø Ferieland in Telemark. First Camp already has 58 different camping destinations throughout Sweden and Denmark, and can now offer its high-quality services to campers in Norway.

“We have been looking at the Norwegian market for some time, so it's wonderful that Norway has now become our third country,” saidJohan Söör, CEO of First Camp.

“Norwegian campers are already an important guest category for us, and we can now offer them a First Camp option on their home ground. This is our first step toward becoming a major camping chain in Norway as well.”

First Camp’s primary owner, Norvestor, is a Norwegian-based company so the move makes sense on many levels, with plans for rapid growth in Norway on the cards – First Camp hopes to have about 10 Norwegian campsite destinations within the next three or four years.

First Camp CEO Johan Söör and investment manager Ola Bååth.

Ola Bååth, investment manager at First Camp, said: “It has become increasingly important in the camping industry to have a good online booking channel, and First Camp's website is already the largest booking channel for camping and cabin holidays in Scandinavia. Thanks to First Camp’s strong position and well-known brand, new guests will be able to enjoy our camping destinations.”

The Norsjø Ferieland site has 260 camping pitches, 32 cabins, a restaurant and Norway’s only zipline park for wakeboarding. The campsite's location attracts guests from both Western Norway and the Oslo region. First Camp will take over the campsite in February 2022. The current owners, Vebjørn Hagen and Marita Veum will continue to work at Norsjø under First Camp ownership.
