Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a caravan!

Citizens and tourists of London were given a high-flying surprise this week when they spotted a Bailey of Bristol caravan perched high up on the roof terrace of the One New Change building overlooking the iconic St Paul’s Cathedral. The Bailey Unicorn Vigo caravan was the centrepiece of a city centre pop-up campsite that was designed to celebrate the extraordinary year that the camping and caravanning industry has just experienced. It was carefully placed upon the London city skyline with cranes after many months of careful planning, and the event was attended by a group of celebrities, Olympians, Paralympians, athletes, and the media.

Reasons to be cheerful

Bailey has seen its caravan sales increase by 15 per cent during the COVID-19 pandemic, while its motorhome sales have leaped 30 per cent. It has also recorded a million visitors to its website for the first time and nearly tripled its followers on social media platform Instagram – a sure sign that a new, younger profile of customers are engaging with its brand.

UK membership organisation and campsite chain, the Caravan and Motorhome Club, was also involved in the stunt, and it also claims to have had one of its busiest ever years with its members enjoying unprecedented levels of caravan and motorhome holidays post lockdown.

Bailey managing director, Nick Howard, said: “Craning the caravan onto a London rooftop has been a great way to celebrate an exceptionally busy and challenging year.

“We love doing events like this to challenge people’s perceptions of caravan holidays. Previously, we’ve towed caravans across Australia, done a winter trip above the Arctic Circle to see Santa in Lapland, and seen 21 countries in 21 days on an epic road trip to Istanbul and back!”
