Is it a truck? Is it a camper? Actually, it's both

American custom van and RV builder Rossmönster has revealed a brand-new truck camper that it claims pushes the boundaries of what is possible in the category. The new Baja truck camper is the company’s first, and has been billed as the ultimate off-road and off-grid vehicle, engineered to be lighter and more compact than other expedition vehicles on the market without compromising on aesthetics or performance. The truck is available on half, three-quarter and one ton chassis, and according to Rossmönster has been made because some people are just truck people.

Ross Williamson, co-owner of Rossmönster Vans, said: “We know that many people, including ourselves, prefer to adventure in hard-to-reach places where getting there is part of the experience. As such, we wanted to build a vehicle with the same craftsmanship and dedication to design that we’ve been employing in our van builds for years, but with a bit more capability to explore where others can.”

Meanwhile, fellow co-owner of the company, Luke Farny added: “Innovation and pushing the boundaries of what is possible gets Ross and I really excited. Launching the Overland series of campers has been incredibly rewarding because while we are used to pushing the boundaries of design and craftsmanship, this project forced us to push the limits of testing. In order to work out the kinks and confidently bring this new concept to market, our whole team was involved in rigorous testing that proved these truck campers can go as far as you are willing to push them.”

Why a truck?

The departure from van building to create this truck camper came about due to a few key reasons, according to Rossmönster:

● The half, three quarter and one ton chassis trucks are more compact and have greater off-road capability with increased ground clearance, locking differentials, and a smaller overall footprint.

● Truck campers are designed with an actuating hard shell top so that while the vehicle is driving, the top can be lowered, making the vehicle more compact, achieve better fuel economy, and generally be more nimble and capable than other expedition vehicles on the market today. Once at camp, the hard shell is articulated, creating over a foot of additional height, so that there’s no compromise on the luxury camping experience our vehicles have promised for years.

● Rossmönster’s truck campers can be entered via a rear door or through an insulated pass-through from the cab of the truck. While driving, the ability to roll down the insulated partition to seal off the camper greatly minimizes noise from the camper, resulting in a more enjoyable riding experience.

● The cab of the vehicle is left largely untouched, therefore leaving four factory seats intact, making for a comfortable riding experience whether you're riding shotgun or in the back seats.
