What's new from Nemo Equipment for 2022?

Sustainability, weight reduction and insulation – the three key aspects that American camping and outdoor gear brand Nemo Equipment says it has focused on heavily with its new range of backpacking products for 2022. Headlining the launch is the company’s new recycled OSMO fabric that features in the Dagger OSMO and Hornet Elite OSMO tent series. The all-new OSMO fabric is woven from recycled polyester and nylon yarns backed with a polyurethane coating for waterproofness. Recently named by Popular Science as one of 2021’s top innovations, OSMI offers high-performance water and wind protection and all the yarns used to make it are PFC and PFAS-free and meet flame retardancy standards without the use of added chemicals.

Here is a rundown of what’s new from Nemo in backpacking and lightweight camping for 2022:

Dagger OSMO (two person and three person)

Nemo’s best-selling ultralight backpacking tent gets a serious upgrade now that it is made from the company’s exciting new recycled OSMO fabric. All the same features that are so well-loved in the original Dagger are there, such as generous interior space thanks to smart pole structure as well as colour coded poles for quick set-up. New in the 2022 range, besides the OSMO fabric, are a Divvy Cube stuff sack, Landing Zone gear tub for additional dry storage, Gatekeeper door tie back and reduced weights on both two-person and three-person versions.

Hornet Elite OSMO (one person and two person)

The Hornet Elite is designed for extreme minimalists and has been updated with not only the new recycled OSMO material, but also thoughtful design tweaks that aim to make it as light as possible. This is helped by the minimal pole structure and Flybar volumizing pole clip. It also benefits from a new subdued colourway, Gatekeeper door tie back and 100 per cent recycled fabric pole bag.

Impact (two person)

For this new tent, Nemo partnered with fellow New England-based brand L.L.Bean to create its first ever rugged, high-performance, 100 per cent carbon neutral tent. The end result? An impressively spacious shelter that dials up the durability while cutting down its carbon footprint, making outdoor adventure more enjoyable today and in the years to come. The tent features two doors and vestibules for ample storage and access, 100 per cent recycled ripstop yarns for an 80 per cent increase in tear strength, removable Landing Zone gear tub for dry storage, Divvy Cube stuff sack, strutted vents for air circulation and Light Pocket – a technology that uses light-diffusing fabric to cast an even glow through the tent.

Tensor and Tensor Insulated

Nemo’s iconic and proprietary Spaceframe baffle construction rocketed Tensor to the number one selling position for ultralight air pads, offering backpackers the trifecta of ultralight, quiet, and stable sleep. In 2022, it’s warmer and still quiet, with no impact on weight. The updated construction has continuous TPU film that prevents collective heat loss. Other features include 100 per cent 20D bluesign certified polyester fabric, Laylow zero profile, multi-functional valve and Vortex pump sack.

Astro

The value-for-money Astro pad has also received an update for 2022, now featuring 100 per cent bluesign-certified 75D recycled polyester fabric, 100 per cent PCR PrimaLoft synthetic insulation, Pillow Baffle to keep the pillow in place, Laylow zero profile, multi-functional valve and Vortex pump sack.

Sonic Sleeping Bag

The bag long praised to be the only one you need from trailhead to above treeline, Sonic is updated for even greater warmth retention and tuneability. It features Thermo Gills with access from both inside and outside the bag offer a broader range of temperature regulation and fine tuning, chevron baffle construction better compartmentalizes down for more uniform loft while mitigating migration, and is made from sustainable materials.
