Concept of new VW California to be revealed at Caravan Salon

Visitors to Caravan Salon can always expect to see something new and exciting in the industry that whets their appetite. This year is no different, and the excitement for attendees has been provoked even further thanks to automotive giant Volkswagen. The company has announced it will be showcasing the concept of its new generation of California campervan at the show, providing a glimpse into the future of the most successful campervan of all time.

Based on the long Multivan, the California Concept will combine the great driving characteristics of this van alongside plug-in hybrid technology. There will also be a host of smart features on board, many of which will be able to be controlled by the Cali on Tour app. The Concept will also take the touchscreen roof console from the California 6.1 and transform it into a tablet-style screen that will allow greater control and customisation of the van.

A statement from VW Commercial Vehicles said: “The California is more than just a camper van, it is a motoring way of life, an ambassador for freedom. Over four generations, more than 260,000 units of this compact camper van have been sold to date. They all have one important detail in common: the pop-up roof. A tent at a height of almost two metres. And as one secret that can be revealed before the world premiere, that is why the California Concept will of course be on show in Düsseldorf with a pop-up roof.”

Volkswagen also says that this future generation of California will continue to be fully produced in Hannover, where it recently celebrated producing the 200,000th California campervan.

See the California Concept for yourself in Hall 16, stand D52-01 at Caravan Salon from 25 August to 3 September.
