Trigano demonstrates strong resilience in annual results

French camping giant Trigano reported an operating profit of €180.6 million in its annual results for 2020 – a figure which the company claims demonstrates strong resilience in a context marked by strong political, economic and health uncertainties.

The full details of the report show that sales (-6.2 per cent), operating profit (-14.2 per cent) and net income (-16.7 per cent) were all down on 2019, but Trigano does not consider these figures concerning considering the highly unusual trading year the world has experienced.

The report stated: “The activity of the fiscal year was strongly affected by measures decided by public authorities in order to contain the Covid-19 pandemic with, on the one hand, the closure of most production sites for several weeks in spring 2020 and, on the other hand, the increase in constraints in terms of personnel management and adaptation of workstations which impacted productivity.”

The company said that the different handling of the pandemic by different countries affected its operations in different ways – this compounded with increased taxes on C02 in the UK and Sweden in September 2019 made for a tough start to the year. However the subsequent boom of interest in camping and leisure vehicles after the start of the pandemic and initial lockdowns helped Trigano’s sales recover to just -6.2 per cent compared to 2019 – in other words, it could have been far worse if not for the bounce back.

Faced with these challenges, Trigano implemented numerous action programs, in particular:

• The opening at the end of August 2020 of a new production site for converted vans in Italy near the FIAT / PSA factory producing chassis. The goal is to increase annual production by 4,400 vehicles. The ramp-up of this new site is in line with forecasts

• The restoration to working order of both sites which were refitted in 2019

• Establishment of a new manufacturing plant for vans in Spain

• Launch of the Benimar brand on the German market

• The opening of a product exhibition hall in Sprendlingen in Germany

The French company also stated that is expecting a marked improvement in its activity and results in 2020/21.
