Nemo wins two awards for polybag elimination project

American camping and outdoor gear brand Nemo Equipment has won two awards for its 100k Polybag Elimination Project – one from New Hampshire Businesses for Social Responsibility (NHBSR) and another from GOOD Green Design.

The most recent award from NHBSR was to celebrate companies that have demonstrated positive change in many areas including workplace inclusivity, waste reduction, clean energy, advocacy, purpose driven leadership and creativity. Nemo was recognized as a small business leader in the Workplace category.

Nemo’s glonal distribution and sustainability manager, Theresa Conn, said: “Nemo is a proud member of New Hampshire Businesses for Social Responsibility. It’s a great platform to share our story of global collaboration while also connecting with fellow NH businesses that are inspiring and leading positive change.”

What is the 100k Polybag Elimination Project?

This joint project between Nemo and its tent pole supplier DAC is a particularly good example of how companies within a supply chain can work together to make a difference to the environment. It means that Nemo has removed unnecessary polybags from its packaging and also reduced the resources needed to make a sewn pole bag. The Repreve recycled, undyed, uncoated fabric bag with recycled thread uses less energy and water to manufacture. There is no webbing, cord, or plastic hardware, minimizing materials and creating a straight-forward solution. It repurposes about 1.3 plastic bottles per bag and is now offered out to other brands as a solution by DAC.
